Introduction to Yoga and Meditation 12/14 11:30am – 12:45pm IFMC Lobby

“Yoga stills the fluctuations of the mind” Patanjal’s Yoga Sutras I.II

Earthquakes, hurricanes, rising and falling financial markets, health concerns and other worries can certainly threaten our sense of security and very survival. While there is not much we can do to prevent some disasters, there are things we can do to prepare for them and keep our mental and emotional state steady and calm despite the volatile nature of outer events.

Yoga and meditation offer physical postures and breathing techniques to calm the autonomic nervous system response to stress, and restore your sense of wellbeing. You can learn to cultivate an inner equilibrium and “still the fluctuations of the mind,” regardless of the stressful ups and downs of daily life.

If you are experiencing stress related symptoms, general anxiety, or would just like to explore how yoga and meditation can improve the quality of life, IFMC offers a monthly 5 Stones Yoga and Meditation class. All are welcome to attend one or more sessions. No prior experience is required.

Class fee: $18. Please contact the IFMC at 703-669-6118 or email gking@lmgdoctors.com to register.

Endurance – Not just for athletes – A Wednesday evening series Jan 18 Feb 15 6:30pm – 8:00pm IFMC

How could endurance matter to normal, everyday people?  What most people do not realize is that each and every one of us could benefit from developing a higher endurance level.  Endurance can contribute to the quality of life, how much we get out of our lives, even if we are not training for an athletic event.  If we are in the position of a caregiver for someone, be it a parent, child, loved one, if we are in the care giving industry, such as nurse, home health aid, teacher, day care teacher, endurance can be a wonderful gift.  People who are suffering from chronic illnesses also are in special need to increase their endurance level.  Come and learn a bit more about endurance, how it can be fostered and developed and most importantly, why.

Presented by Brian Fillman, this is a series that is especially relevant in today’s society.

Cost of the program is $15/class.  Please contact the IFMC at 703-669-6118 or email gking@lmgdoctors.com to register.
