Eczema is a common skin condition, characterized by dry, flaky, often itchy skin. It tends to occur in patches, often in the elbow creases, behind the knees, sometimes on the trunk and face. The conventional medical approach to treating eczema often consists of corticosteroids, usually as a cream or ointment. I believe that it is important to deal with the underlying cause of the irritation, and often find that an imbalance in the gastrointestinal track is the root cause. Along with the omega 3 vitamins, avoidance of certain foods and supplementing with probiotics can help heal skin that is irritated by issues like eczema.
