HONORING MEN'S HEALTH

Avoiding the Doctor Office at Any Cost?    “The greatest wealth is health.”  ~ Virgil

Studies show that, in any given year, only 4 percent of men will visit a physician compared with 34 percent of women.   Because of this men who develop diseases like cancer and diabetes tend to be diagnosed much later than women.  Men are less aware of their symptoms than women, and are more reluctant to seek help. It’s not just an "awareness" problem, it's more an unwillingness to show any signs of weakness.  Men tend to see health as a very black and white thing - "I'm either ill or I'm well.”  Meanwhile human health is a multi-faceted picture and there are many “degrees” of sick or well.  When men delay going to the doctor their symptoms are often more advanced and harder to treat.   Maybe this is why 40% of men die before age 75?

New and Noteworthy - Updates from IFMC

The past several months have been exciting for us as our educational offerings have really taken off. We have been able to hold a variety of classes and workshops on different wellness topics, different healing traditions and personal well-being. Our practitioners have presented on nutrition, hormonal balance, stress management, fitness, herbal remedies, meditation and hypnosis. We have held workshops on balance, energetic  healing, and we held a silent retreat day

Nutrition for Men

Males of all ages can benefit from eating a balanced and varied diet, getting enough calcium, avoiding high fat and sugar content (like fast food), drinking more glasses of water, and exercising daily. However, if you are worried about your personal nutrition or weight, talk with your doctor about your concerns. There are many diets and supplements that can be dangerous to your health. Your doctor can discuss a weight program that is right for you.

Men Need Eight a Day: Although everyone is encouraged to eat five or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day, men should actually be shooting for eight.........

THE ROLE HYPNOSIS CAN PLAY IN MENS HEALTH

Interestingly enough, I and many of my Hypnotherapy colleagues have noticed that men seem to go under hypnosis faster than women. Men do always seem to like more speed! Often, however, men do seem to be more skeptical of hypnosis so professionals will perform what are called, ‘Suggestibility Tests’ before a session. We will often use numbing techniques to show the power of the mind and instill confidence that hypnosis works.

The helpfulness of hypnosis in mens physical and mental health is broad and varied. Confidence probably tops the list, followed by issues
with anxiety and insomnia. During the worst part of the recession, many of my male clients were extremely depressed (some still are) and
for those who drink, their consumption went way up. Hypnosis can be very powerful for weight loss, controlling heart rate, sports performance and so much more.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with hypnosis, the following might be helpful in demonstrating the powerful yet simple way our minds can work......
