Martha Calihan, M.D.  -
Board Certified in Family Medicine
Board Certified in Holistic Medicine

Dr. Martha Calihan has practiced Family Medicine for more than 20 years, during which time her interests and her practice have evolved into a holistic, integrative approach to medicine. She is licensed to practice acupuncture and is trained in both Mind-Body Medicine and Functional Medicine.

Dr. Calihan graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1982 and then completed her residency in Family Medicine at the Fairfax Family Practice Center, in Fairfax, Virginia, where she served as chief resident. After completing her residency, Dr. Calihan served as a faculty member at the residency until she moved to Leesburg-Sterling Family Practice in 1990.

Dr Calihan studied acupuncture at the UCLA School of Medicine program with Dr Joseph Helms. In 1997, she trained with Dr Jim Gordon at the Center for Mind-Body Medicine center in Washington, DC, and was subsequently a preceptor at his program for training health care professionals in Mind-Body Medicine skills. In 2000, Dr. Calihan was Board Certified in Holistic Medicine.

It is from this background that Dr. Calihan has come to practice Integrative Medicine; a field for which she has great passion. It is in the practice of Integrative Medicine that she is able to combine modalities from multiple traditions of medicine, and in so doing, approach each patient from a unique vantage point and develop a personalized plan with them for their optimal health and well being.

Felix Ma, M.D.  -
Board Certified in Family Medicine
Board Certified in Holistic Medicine

Dr. Felix Ma is a board-certified Family Medicine physician with training in the practice of acupuncture. In 1993, he graduated summa cum laude from Case Western Reserve University Undergraduate School in Cleveland, OH and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology. During the summer after his third year in college, he obtained acupuncture training in Beijing, China and received a diploma of completion of training through an intensive program offered through the Beijing Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This experience helped to shape the nature of his present practice with a focus on integrating Eastern and Western approaches to healing. Through the 8 year Pre-Professional Scholars Program in Medicine at CWRU he achieved his degree in medicine. In 1997 he was accepted into the Family Practice Residency Program at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN.

While in residency, Dr. Ma received experience in a Level 1 Trauma center within an urban practice. It was there that he developed a greater interest in complementary medicines including acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine and envisioned the application of a more holistic approach to healing. After residency, he spent a year as a Locum Tenens physician in various Minnesotan rural communities. He spent an additional 2 years in Minnesota working in Fairview Health Systems within a suburban practice. In 2003, he moved to Northern Virginia where he maintains a vibrant practice in Leesburg, VA through Leesburg/Sterling Family Practice.

Dr. Ma has additional training from UCLA Helm’s Institute Medical Acupuncture for Physicians, a respected program designed to train the art and science of acupuncture to licensed physicians. He is a member of the American Board of Holistic Medicine and has pending Board Certification in Holistic Medicine. He is active in the Integrative Family Medicine Center with special emphasis on acupuncture and herbal medicines. He has given public presentations on topics of fitness and exercise as well as herbal remedies and Traditional Chinese Medicine. He brings to the community a rich background of medical experience and delivers medical care through a holistic approach.
